Diranda and the Directorate
Think of Ancient Rome, Machivellian Rome, think of the Courts of Amber and Chaos and you might have an inkling of what the Dirandan Directorate is like.
Diranda is the fifth planet in the binary Tamkantarran system, the violet-cyan jewel of the Directorate, the most beautiful and perfect world in the Universe.
At least, that’s what the Directorate will tell you. Any other resident of any other government within the Fifth Quadrant might argue, perhaps even those who are in rebellion within the Directorate (known as the Dirandan Resistance).
The Directorate is a wide-spanning dictatorship governed by an iron-fisted High King and Director, Asher VonTesmar. His beloved first son, Samuel is the Heir to the throne, the Crown Prince, being cultivated to seize the reigns of government when his father is gone.
However, Asher’s youngest, Gaston, is better suited to the rulership and even Samuel knows this. Asher, however, hates his youngest, the result of an illicit liason with a Kristani princess; the gypsy child of a wild magical woman. Gaston is wild, like his mother, but just as cold and calculating as his father, which makes him extremely dangerous to Asher.
Asher knows this, but is not able to do what he’d prefer–kill the child–because the boy is under the protection of a man arguably more powerful than the High King, Asher, himself. The most accomplished Psionic within the Directorate, Duke March Tramani, the Keeper of the Keys, the head of the Directorate Special Services and Gaston’s Mentor in the Psionic arts, the mysterious and highly feared Arts of the Mastery of the Dirandan Living Crystals. Even Asher fears the power of the Keeper and thus, stays his hand.
