Ray Bradbury, 91, died this morning in Los Angeles.
I grew up with Ray’s amazing stories and writing and he influenced me as a writer. Interestingly, my favorite book by him isn’t fiction, but “Zen and the Art of Writing”. I’ve read this book a number of times and the things he says about writing are amazing and wonderful. He writes about writing as poetically as he wrote his fiction.
Ray showed me there could be poetry in prose writing, showed me the way words could be used to evoke a setting, an emotion, a character. You could read his work just to be immersed in the words.
Ray loved words.
Because of him, so do I.
I love you, Ray. I will miss you. Thank you for sharing your words with me.
